Lions top 3 finish captures 3rd SCIL Festival title in 10 years

Mike Holenstein, Brian Bachrach and Tyler Melford finished in the top 3 as Pope John pulled away to a 17-stroke advantage over runnerup Vernon to claim the team title in the 2007 SCIL Golf Festival contested at the Great Gorge Golf Club in Vernon on Wednesday. Holenstein, a senior, captured the individual gold medal when he carded a four-over par 18-hole round of 75 over the Lake and Quarry courses, going out in 38 and coming in with a 37. Bachrach and Melford deadlocked for the silver medal posting rounds of 78. Vernon's runnerup effort was keyed by Don DiClemente and Kyle Farris who turned in scores of 81 to tie for fourth place with High Point's Jeremy Quinn. Wallkill Valley, which placed third in the team standings 15 strokes behind the Vikings, was led by Tim Plesbach who finished tied for seventh with an 82.
